Ears are there to hear, of course. Sometimes they don’t work as well for a while. Do you hear less well with one ear? Do you feel congested and does your ear sometimes hurt? Then you may have a plugged up ear. Read here what you can do about that ear plug.
Tips for a clogged ear:
1. Stay away from your ears
Don’t pick at your ear with cotton buds or other narrow objects, this will only push any earwax further into your ear.
2. Only clean the outside
Do you want to clean your ears anyway? Then only clean the outer part of the ear canal with a sheet of toilet paper or a tissue.
3. Earwax is good for something….
Many people think having earwax is an unappetizing idea, but of course your body creates it for a reason. If you want to remove earwax, only remove visible earwax. So don’t go far into your ear with a cotton swab to see if you can remove some earwax there too.
4. Drops of oil
Is your earwax very stiff and crumbly? Then occasionally put 1 or 2 drops of salad or olive oil in your ear. After you have dripped some oil in your ear, lie on your side for a while so that the drops have time to run inside. This will thin your earwax and make it easier to get it out. By the way, note that if you have a hole in your eardrum or eardrum tubes you should not drip, please consult with your doctor about the best thing to do.
Is your ear canal completely stopped?
Then it is smart to make an appointment with your family doctor. Your doctor will first check whether your impaired hearing is really caused by an earwax plug. If this is the case, then your doctor can blow out your ear.
How do you get an ear plug?
A wax plug occurs when your earwax can no longer leave your ear. Because wax is still being made, it accumulates and creates a plug. Your ear becomes clogged in this way.
People with a narrow ear canal or a lot of hair growth in the ear canal are more likely to suffer from this. A blocked ear can also be caused by people pushing their earwax back into the ear, for example with cotton swabs, or by people closing off their ear canal with, for example, a hearing aid or earplug.
